Staff Archeological Technician

Job Summary

The Environmental and Cultural Resources Team at Vantage Point Solutions is looking for entry-level archeologists/archeological technicians to assist with projects in both the office and in the field. The applicant must have strong writing skills and should be familiar with general archeological field concepts. Successful applicants will have an archeological field school, be willing to work in a team to complete other permitting projects, be able to multi-task, and be a strong communicator.

VPS specializes in telecommunications projects in more than 40 states. We are looking for someone interested in being trained for cultural resource management projects for a position that will be based in either Rapid City, South Dakota, Mitchell, South Dakota, or Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A paid training period in Rapid City will be required.

This job can be seasonal, with the opportunity to be full-time. Wages $20-25 pr/hour depending on experience. Full-time positions are also eligible for additional benefits.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and right-of-way specialists for environmental and cultural resource concerns
  • Coordinate with federal and state agencies on current permitting requirements
  • Assisting with writing and preparation of archeological Phase I/Class I reports and other permitting assistance
  • Complete Phase III/Class III field projects of various sizes, in multiple states, as part of a crew

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following fields (or related field): archeology, anthropology, historic preservation, history
  • Technical writing experience
  • Archeological field school
  • Valid US Driver’s license, clean driving record
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Ability to be in the field/travel mandatory
